Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a holistic, complementary treatment rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine that supports the body’s natural ability to regulate, restore balance, and heal. It involves the gentle placement of very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body to influence nervous system activity, circulation, and energetic pathways.

We offer acupuncture as an integrative wellness service that can be used alongside psychotherapy, behavioral health treatment, and other holistic modalities. It is not a replacement for medical or mental health care. However, it is a supportive and evidence-based approach that enhances whole-person wellness within the mind, body, and nervous system.

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture aims to restore balance within the body’s regulatory systems by supporting parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) nervous system activation as well as improving circulation and micro-circulation. It also influences pain and stress signaling pathways.

In addition, acupuncture supports hormonal and immune regulation, reduces physiological stress load, and promotes energetic and functional balance across body systems.

From a modern integrative perspective, acupuncture is understood to affect neurochemical signaling, connective tissue response, and autonomic nervous system regulation. All of these play a role in emotional and physical well-being.

Benefits as a Complementary Treatment

When integrated with behavioral health and wellness services, acupuncture may help reduce physiological stress reactivity, improve relaxation capacity, and enhance mind-body awareness. It can support recovery during life transitions or intensive growth periods.

It can support emotional regulation work in therapy and reduce somatic tension stored in the body, as it complements mindfulness and somatic practices. This can help improve sleep quality.

Many clients find that combining acupuncture with counseling, coaching, or skills-based programs accelerates progress by addressing both top-down (cognitive/emotional) and bottom-up (somatic/nervous system) pathways.

What to Expect in a Session

After the initial consultation and wellness review, you will set collaborative goals for the session. There will be gentle placement of fine, single-use sterile needles and then you will have a rest period (typically 20–40 minutes) in a calm environment. There may be complementary supports such as breathing, relaxation guidance, or integrative wellness suggestions. Most people describe the experience as deeply relaxing. Sensations are typically minimal and brief.

Integrative Care & Professional Boundaries

Acupuncture services are provided by a licensed acupuncture professional. These services are complementary and wellness-oriented and are not psychotherapy or medical treatment. When used alongside counseling or behavioral health care, coordination remains client-directed and consent-based, with clear professional boundaries and disclosure.
