Step-Down Intensive Program
Bridging the transition from intensive treatment to independent stability
Completing an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is an important step in recovery and personal growth. However, the transition back to everyday life can be challenging. The structure and support that helped stabilize progress are no longer as frequent, and weekly therapy alone may not feel like enough.
The Step-Down Intensive Program provides continued support during this transition. This short-term program helps participants strengthen the skills learned in treatment, apply them to real-life situations, and build confidence in maintaining progress.
Rather than returning to a higher level of care, this program offers a bridge between intensive treatment and independent living, helping participants maintain momentum while gradually increasing autonomy. The added structure accelerates progress by creating space to practice skills, receive feedback, and refine what works before challenges escalate.
Focus of the Step-Down Intensive Program
The Step-Down Intensive is beneficial for individuals who recently completed an IOP or partial hospitalization program or who feel stable but still could benefit from additional structure and support. In addition, the program is also helpful for people who notice early signs of stress or difficulty maintaining progress, want to reinforce the skills learned in treatment, or are committed to maintaining their progress and preventing relapse.
The small group format allows participants to practice skills, receive guidance, and learn from others navigating similar transitions. Participants are encouraged to continue working with their existing therapist during the program.
This is a one week intensive that meets in person for 3 days (9 hours total). It is designed for individuals who are stable, not in crisis or needing a higher level of care, but who can benefit from continued structure and skill reinforcement.
The Step-Down Intensive runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Key focus areas are:
- Refreshing and applying IOP skills in real-life situations
- Building sustainable routines that support mental health
- Practicing executive functioning skills to achieve goals
- Identifying triggers, early warning signs, and stress patterns
- Strengthening mindfulness and nervous system regulation
- Increasing confidence, autonomy, and follow-through
- Reducing the risk of relapse through intentional support and practice
Participants leave the program with a personalized 30–90 day stabilization and growth plan that includes the following:
- Daily routines that support mental health
- Personal goals and priorities
- Skill practices for emotional regulation
- Strategies for managing stress and preventing setbacks
Why Step-Down Support Matters
Transitions in care are often where people struggle most—not because they lack skills, but because the structure that supported those skills has changed. This program provides the space to practice, strengthen, and integrate those skills, helping participants move forward with greater confidence and stability.
